The Playmobil figure was launched in the early seventies by the German Hans Beck. Hans Beck spent the years 1971-1974 developing the figures and concepts. His idea behind the plastic figure was that it should fit a child's hand. He calculated this to be 7.5 cm - and this size has always been maintained. When it came to the face of the figure, it was also important that it was designed for small children. He chose to base the faces on children's drawings. This meant the head should be large, but the face itself should only consist of a big smile and large eyes - but no nose.

Already the same year Playmobil was launched, "geobra Brandstätter" presented a set of Playmobil with knights, Indians, and construction workers. Although there was momentum, people were still somewhat hesitant. However, the toy was still presented at the toy fair in Nuremberg the same year. 

A Dutch company had chosen to invest and thereby buy the entire next year's production. This turned out to be a very good idea. By the end of the year, "geobra Brandstätter" had already sold more than €1.5 million worth of Playmobil. The company has been a huge success ever since. Many people already know Playmobil. It may be that the mother played with the toy when she was little. Due to the high demand, many subcategories were added, and the brand continued to develop. We have chosen to include many of the subcategories in our range.  

Playmobil was invented by the German Hans Beck (1929 - 2009), who is called "Playmobil's father".

Hans Beck was trained as a cabinetmaker but was also an avid model airplane builder, a product he proposed to the company "geobra Brandstätter". The company's owner, Horst Brandstätter, rejected the proposal and instead asked Beck to develop toy figures for children. Hans Beck spent three years (from 1971-1974) developing what later became Playmobil.

The core of his idea was the plastic figure, which at 7.5 cm in size fits perfectly in a child's hand. The figure's face is also based on children's drawings – with a large head, a big smile, eyes – but no nose. In 1974, "geobra Brandstätter" presented the first Playmobil sets with knights, Indians, and construction workers. Initially, customers were hesitant to embrace Playmobil, but the toy was still presented at the international toy fair in Nuremberg the same year. A Dutch company chose to buy the entire next year's production, and by the end of the year, "geobra Brandstätter" had sold more than €1.5 million worth of Playmobil.

This corresponded to one-sixth of the company's total turnover. In 1975, Playmobil was introduced worldwide… and has been a huge success ever since. 

Like LEGO, Playmobil has also opened amusement parks.

It is definitely worth taking a summer trip south to experience one of the amusement parks.

For the girls

Playmobil is popular among both girls and boys. There are no limits on who can join in. However, some subcategories are more popular with girls. One of these subcategories is Fashion Girls. With Fashion Girls, you can hold your very own fashion show where you can create your own unique combinations! You can change the clothes on the models! If you have several Fashion Girls, you can always invite friends over for some fun hours of play! We are sure the friends will want to join! Of course, you don't have to play with others – you can also play alone!

Another favorite among girls is Fairies. This series is aimed at girls because of the beautiful colors and lovely design. The subcategory makes play mysterious and exciting! You can give your fairies magical powers! Maybe one can heal? Another might design beautiful dresses! Only your imagination limits the play!

You can also mix the different series! This can make play exciting and last for hours! For example, you can let your Fairies help the Fashion Girls set up the fashion show so it becomes perfect! It would also be great if one Fairy could design dresses! There are many fun games you can play with your Playmobil figures – so what are you waiting for?

For the boys 

As mentioned above, some subcategories are more suited for girls than boys. The same applies to boys. Here we have some series that might not always appeal to girls. An example of such a series is Pirates. Here you can go on adventures with your Playmobil figures! You can sail over the high waves above the sofa or into the village under the dining table. You choose where the next adventure will go! The Pirates series has everything you need for a real pirate game! So man your ship – there is treasure to be found!

If you are not into pirates, we recommend you check out the Dragons series. This series takes you into the movie "How to Train Your Dragon." The subcategory is developed based on the classic dragon movie. You can easily recognize it if you explore the selection. For example, you can see Toothless as a Playmobil figure! This way, you can reenact the movie on the living room floor or maybe create your own story! There is plenty of opportunity for hours of play.

But here too, you can mix the different series. In the above, you can go on a treasure hunt with the pirates, but watch out! Toothless is guarding the big treasure chest! Maybe you can change the story so that Toothless actually helps you find the treasure. There are many different storylines the play can take – but which one will you choose? Play will only be fun if you let it be fun!
