Mattress topper 160x200 for the double bed

A mattress topper in 160x200 fits beds with a sleeping surface of 160x200 cm. The size is used for double beds, where the topper is placed on top of the innerspring mattress or the two single innerspring mattresses that together make up the bed's total sleeping surface.

Choosing a mattress topper is a good solution to adjust the comfort of the top layer of the bed and is also a way to protect the mattress underneath from some of the daily wear the bed is exposed to. A mattress topper cannot, however, replace a mattress that no longer provides the necessary support. If the mattress itself is worn out or has noticeable indentations, it may therefore be relevant to look at new mattresses rather than just placing a mattress topper on top.

Before you choose, you should check your bed's actual measurements. A mattress topper of 160x200 cm must cover the entire sleeping surface of the bed, so it neither hangs over the edge nor leaves part of the mattress uncovered, for the bed to be assembled optimally.

One single topper or two at 80x200 cm?

If the double bed consists of two mattresses of 80x200 cm each, you can choose between one single mattress topper of 160x200 cm or two separate mattress toppers of 80x200 cm.

A single topper creates a more cohesive surface and will make the gap between the two mattresses less noticeable. This is a big advantage if you want to be able to use the entire width of the bed without a distinct seam in the middle.

Two separate toppers, on the other hand, allow you to choose different materials depending on each person's preferences and needs. One person may for example need a softer and more contouring surface, while the other prefers a firmer topper. This solution will, however, result in a visible seam between the toppers that can still be felt.

Which material should you choose?

At HOME-TEX you will find mattress toppers in 160x200 cm with different core types. The material has a major impact on how the topper responds when you lie down, move, or change sleeping position during the night.

If you choose a mattress topper with memory foam, it shapes itself to the body's warmth and load. The material gives in around shoulders, back and hips and creates a feeling of sinking into the topper. Memory foam is therefore pressure-relieving and will support the body into a more ergonomic sleeping position. It can be relevant if you want a topper that contours more closely to the body.

A latex mattress topper has an elastic and resilient surface. Latex springs back quickly when you move, and you will therefore experience lying more on top of the topper than in it, in contrast to memory foam. This makes it easier to change sleeping position during the night since the topper does not keep an imprint of your body to the same extent. Many of our latex cores have ventilation holes that allow air to move through the material and contribute to a more breathable topper.

Toppers with polyurethane foam (PU foam) provide a simpler comfort layer and normally affect the sleeping feel much less than both memory foam and latex. This type of topper is usually also a more budget-friendly choice, and if the mattress on your bed already provides the desired support and comfort and you primarily want an extra layer between the body and the mattress to minimize wear, this type of topper is ideal for you.

Should the topper be 3 to 5 cm or 6 to 8 cm?

Mattress toppers in 160x200 cm are offered in different heights. We have heights of 3 to 5 cm and 6 to 8 cm. The height indicates how high the foam core under the cover is.

A topper of 3 to 5 cm provides a lighter comfort layer and is a good choice if you are basically satisfied with the bed's current support but still want to adjust the feel of the sleeping surface a little.

A model of 6 to 8 cm, on the other hand, provides a noticeably thicker comfort layer. The higher topper will be particularly relevant if you have bought a bed that you find either too soft or too firm and therefore want a significant change in your bed's comfort.

Height should therefore always be considered together with the material. A topper in memory foam, latex and PU foam feels different even if the models have the same height, since the three types of materials have their own properties and ways of supporting.

Temperature-regulating and allergy-friendly toppers

Mattress topper 160x200 for an adjustable bed

For a regular double bed with a fixed sleeping surface you should choose a topper without splits. If you have an adjustable bed, the topper must match the bed's moving function to avoid problems when the bed's functions are used.

A topper with a U-split has an opening at the head end. It is made for adjustable beds where the two sides must be able to be raised and lowered independently at the head without disturbing the other side. A topper with an H-split has openings at both the head and foot ends, which must be adjustable individually.

Therefore always consider the bed's construction before you choose, because it is not enough that the topper measures 160x200 cm. The split type must also match the bed.

Remember mattress protector and sheets in the right size

Once you have chosen your topper, we recommend that you protect it with a mattress protector in 160x200 cm. The mattress protector is placed on top of the topper but under the sheet, where it takes in all the moisture and daily wear that would otherwise hit the topper directly.

A mattress protector is significantly thinner than a topper and can more easily be removed and washed, which makes it easier to keep the bed's top layer clean and hygienic.

For a regular topper of 160x200 cm we recommend that you choose a Topper fitted sheet in the same size, as it goes around the topper and fits snugly at the back. The sheet's edge must also match the topper's height so that it sits neatly and correctly around the corners without pulling up, so always pay attention to the height of both the sheet and the topper before you choose.

If you have chosen a topper with an H-split or U-split for your adjustable bed, you should choose both the mattress protector with H-split or U-split and the sheet with H-split or U-split. That way the adjustable bed's different parts can continue to be raised and lowered through all layers without the bed's top layers limiting the movement.
