What does TC mean when choosing a sheet?
When you look for sheets, you may sometimes come across the term TC. TC stands for Thread Count, which describes how many threads are woven together per square inch of fabric. It may sound technical, but in short TC is about the thread density of the fabric. The higher the TC, the tighter the fabric is generally woven. This can affect how the sheet feels against the skin and whether the quality is experienced as light, dense, smooth or more compact.
A sheet with a high TC will often have a smoother and finer surface because the threads lie closer together in the weave. This can give a pleasant and exclusive feel, especially if the sheet is made from a good cotton quality or another soft textile type.
TC is not the same as thickness, however. A sheet with a lower TC can still feel substantial if it is woven from thicker yarns or has a higher fabric weight. Conversely, a sheet with a high TC can be light and fine if it is made from thin threads. TC should therefore be seen as one part of the assessment, as the material and the weaving have at least as much impact on comfort.
Topper fitted sheets with splits for adjustable beds
If you have an adjustable bed, you should be aware whether the top mattress requires a sheet with an H-split or a U-split. The split makes it possible to raise and lower the bed sides separately without the sheet being pulled crooked or needing to be removed.
The split sheets are available in sizes such as 160x200, 160x210, 180x200, 180x210, 200x210 and 210x210 cm. Depending on the model, the U-split can have a length of 65, 70, 80 or 90 cm. Therefore check the bed's measurements, the split type and the split length before ordering.
