A long history with Barbie dolls

The Barbie doll was invented by Ruth Handler, who was inspired by her daughter's interest in dress-up dolls. Previously, all dolls resembled small children. Ruth Handler, however, saw the potential in designing dress-up dolls that instead resembled adults.

This led to the first Barbie doll being launched in 1959. Barbie was dressed in a black and white swimsuit – a look that has since become iconic.

Since then, both the wardrobe and the family of Barbie dolls have expanded year after year. This has also led to films, books, and games that have become popular in their own right.
