Curtains in general
We offer curtains in several colors, sizes and designs. When you choose curtains for your home, it is not only about creating privacy and shielding from the sun's rays. Curtains are today an important part of interior design and can add both coziness, style and elegance to any room. Therefore it is a good idea to take into account both the room's decor and the natural light when you choose the curtain type that best suits your needs and personal style.
- Long curtains in heavy fabric or dark colors - Suited to a large living room, as they add warmth and create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
- Light fabric and light colors - If you have a smaller living room, you can still use long curtains, but it's advantageous to choose light colors or lightweight, airy materials that don't feel heavy - this makes the room appear larger and more open.
- Blackout curtains - This type of curtain is most often used in bedrooms or children's rooms. However, blackout curtains can also be useful in other rooms, such as the living room or office, as they are also good at retaining some heat from outside and inside.
Ready-made curtains in several lengths
At HOME-TEX you'll find a wide selection of ready-made curtains, available in different lengths and colors. The assortment includes curtain lengths of 175, 245 and 300 cm, so you have the option to choose a curtain that fits the size of the room.
Ready-made curtain lengths are a popular choice because they arrive ready to hang and do not require special ordering. Be aware, however, that many of our curtains are sold with one curtain panel per package. If you want two curtain lengths for the same window, you should generally order two packages. Always check the product specifications for the exact number and measurements.
Easy hanging
Ready-sewn curtains, often called curtain lengths or long curtains, are easy to hang, and most are sewn with several hanging options. It is important to choose a curtain that has the hanging option you are looking for. The typical curtain hanging methods are listed below:
- Rod pocket
- Gathering tape with loops
- Gathering tape for curtain hooks
- Gathering tape for curtain rings
All four methods are easy to hang and can give very different looks. It often depends on the curtain itself: how heavy the fabric is, how it should fold/gather and how easy it should be to use.
Curtain rails
There are two typical types of curtain rails/rods on which different hanging methods can be used. Aluminium rail or curtain track - the smallest curtain rail where the curtain is attached to small gliders that sit "inside" the rail. Here you hang the curtain with gathering tape for curtain hooks, using small hooks. A curtain track is easy to adapt and can be cut to size with a saw; instructions often accompany it, and it's important to follow these for the neatest installation.
Standard round curtain rods come in different diameters, and it is important to choose your hanging method at the same time, as this can affect whether the curtain and rod fit together. You can look at the size of the gathering tape or the measurement of the rod pocket to determine which rod diameter you can choose. This type of rod is often extendable, so it can have different widths and be adapted to your window. You can tell if the rod has a size range, e.g. 90-160 cm or 140-300 cm.
Curtain width and beautiful folds
In addition to the curtain's length, the width affects how the curtain will hang. When a curtain length hangs with folds, it will cover less width than when the fabric is spread out completely. It is therefore worth paying attention to the curtain's total width if you want a full look with beautiful, soft folds.
At HOME-TEX you will find ready-made curtains with gathering tape, which provide several hanging options. On each product page you can see the curtain's measurements and hanging options, so you can more easily find a curtain that suits both your windows and the look you want.
Sheer curtains
Sheer curtains or lightweight curtains are made from thinner fabric through which you can see. They are therefore not produced for the same function as blackout curtains. The function of sheer curtains is usually to screen sunlight or the sun's rays if they are placed directly on the window or door. Some also use sheer curtains as part of the interior to create coziness and a softer aesthetic.
The difference between light-dimming and blackout curtains
There is a difference in how much light the various curtain types block. Light-dimming curtains are typically made of a heavier fabric that reduces light entry without necessarily making the room completely dark. They are a good choice if you want a full-looking curtain and a pleasant level of screening.
If you want to limit daylight as much as possible, blackout curtains are an obvious choice. At HOME-TEX you will find curtains where the fabric is developed to block light. This is especially advantageous in the bright summer months when the sun rises early and sets late. With blackout curtains you can create a darker and more peaceful sleeping environment, even when it is still light outside.
Maintenance and hemming
Ready-made curtains are easy to maintain; most can be machine washed and simply hung up in place, where they will then dry on the curtain rod. This also restores the nicest folds. However, it can sometimes be beneficial to steam the curtain after hanging if you want to remove the worst wash creases after the curtain has dried. Some also prefer to iron curtains; check the curtain's care label first to ensure how much heat the curtain tolerates.
Ready-made curtains can usually be shortened using hemming tape, where you simply iron the fold together. You therefore don't have to sew your curtains if you want them shorter. It is a smart and simple method to hem your curtains. The tape comes in many different sizes and shapes, and sometimes it is included in the curtain packages.
