Mattress Protector Guide

What is a mattress protector?

A mattress protector is a very thin mattress with a thickness of max 1 cm. It resembles a thick blanket with elastic corners to secure it to the bed. The mattress protector is placed on top of the topper fitted sheet and under the fitted sheet, and is an important element to protect your bed so you can achieve the highest comfort for the longest possible time. Unlike a core, topper, or spring mattress, a mattress protector is not made of foam or springs; it is typically composed of soft materials such as cotton, polyester, silk, or down.

Purpose of a mattress protector

A mattress protector is also called a mattress cover, which makes perfect sense since the term 'mattress cover' reflects the mattress protector’s actual purpose and function, namely to protect the bed or topper fitted sheet from most dirt and moisture, as well as accidents. Furthermore, the mattress protector ensures that you can constantly maintain a better hygienic and clean sleeping environment, as it can typically be washed in the washing machine just like your other bedding. A mattress protector is also very useful in case of accidents in bed, for example due to illness or beverages; typically your topper fitted sheet and bed will be much better protected because the mattress protector will absorb and can subsequently be washed.

Allergy-friendly mattress protector

Besides protecting and extending the life of your bed, you also achieve a much healthier and more allergy-friendly sleeping environment. A mattress protector can be washed free of dust mites, which is almost impossible with a regular mattress or topper fitted sheet. Here, the mattress protector will be an optimal solution.

Choosing a mattress protector

Buying a new mattress protector can have a great impact on your sleeping comfort, so it is important that you consider your needs. Generally, we recommend mattress protectors made of cotton, bamboo, or silk, as these materials are the most breathable and have the best properties when it comes to absorbing dirt and moisture. In general, there are many good options for a mattress protector, regardless of the material it is made of, it will always be highly recommended to use one.

Mattress protector size

Besides choosing the right material, it is of course important to pick a mattress protector that matches the size of your bed and/or mattress.
