Latex mattress toppers with high comfort and breathability

A latex mattress topper has a firm and elastic core that yields to the body and quickly returns to its shape when you move. You will therefore typically experience that you lie more on top of the topper than sunk into it, while the material still adapts to the body's pressure points.

Latex can be synthetically produced, while natural latex is extracted from the rubber tree. Many latex cores consist of a combination of latex and natural latex, and the composition can vary from model to model.

One of the special properties of latex mattress toppers is ventilation. The core has small ventilation holes that allow air to move through the material, and many models also have a ventilated edge. That makes latex a good choice if you want a more breathable topper and often find the bed gets warm at night.

If you prefer a more enveloping feel where the body sinks deeper into the material, a mattress topper with memory foam can be a great alternative.

Latex and natural latex in mattress toppers

Although all models in this category include latex as part of the core, the construction can differ. Some cores are primarily synthetic latex, others contain a larger proportion of natural latex, while many toppers use a combination of the two materials.

Toppers can also vary in height, firmness, flexibility and cover. That means two latex mattress toppers do not necessarily feel the same, even if both have latex as the core material.

When comparing models, you can among other things look at:

  • The ratio between latex and natural latex
  • The topper's height and construction
  • The cover's properties

Therefore read the product description for the individual topper if there are specific features that are important for your choice.

Latex mattress toppers for adjustable beds

If you have an adjustable bed, you can also choose a latex mattress topper. You just need to be aware of which type of split matches your bed's function.

A U-split mattress topper has a split at the head end, while an H-split mattress topper has splits at both the head and foot ends. This makes it possible to use the adjustable bed's moving functions while keeping latex's characteristic lying feel.

Be careful when washing the topper cover

Although the cover on some latex toppers can be removed, we generally do not recommend washing it. There is a risk that the cover will shrink during washing and therefore will not fit the latex core properly afterwards.

If the cover needs washing, always follow the washing instructions for the specific topper carefully. We recommend a maximum of 800 RPM when spinning, and the cover must not be tumble-dried.

Instead, let the cover air dry completely before putting it back on the topper. This reduces the risk that the cover changes shape or size.

Protect your latex mattress topper with a mattress protector

We recommend using a mattress protector on top of the topper. It protects against moisture, dirt and daily wear and is also much easier to remove and wash than the topper's own cover.

For a latex topper, you may prefer a mattress protector in a breathable material so the latex core's ventilation still has good conditions. We recommend mattress protectors in cotton or silk, and you can also choose a cooling mattress protector if you want extra focus on bed temperature.
